ESAB Precision Hole Technology Integrated Plasma Process

Metalworking Online News On July 22, 2013, the world's largest manufacturer and supplier of welding and cutting equipment, systems and materials, ESAB cutting systems, integrated plasma cutting, software and control systems using new precision hole technology. Improve the cylindricity of the hole to achieve the best cutting quality, thus improving the performance of the plasma CNC cutting machine.

The technology has been applied to ESAB's new plasma cutting machine and is equipped with the m3 plasma system and the new Columbus.NET nesting and cutting programming software . At the same time, the technology has been integrated into the new Vision T5 CNC, allowing users to plasma-process high-quality bolt holes in low-carbon steel up to 30 mm thick with hole diameter/sheet thickness ratios as low as 1:1.

Precision hole technology integrates plasma systems, controllers, programming software , height control and cutting machines. All parameters affecting the quality of the hole can be automatically adjusted and controlled, including introduction and extraction, height control, speed, acceleration, kerf compensation and plasma gas, without the intervention of professional operators.

Precision hole technology takes advantage of the advanced gas control capabilities of the ESAB m3 plasma system. The technology incorporates Columbus III nesting cutting programming software and a new process control database, and is built into the VISION T5 CNC with other data required for small hole machining. The VISIONTM T5 CNC automatically optimizes the hole cuts and nesting of parts generated from the EasyShape Part Program Generator or DWG/DXF import files.

An important part of the precision hole technology is the automatic height control system that sets and maintains the optimum torch height during cutting. The encoder accurately measures the height at which the torch is retracted from the steel plate. When cutting a hole, the controller uses this information to maintain the proper height without the need for an arc voltage. This eliminates the effects of arc voltage delay and electrode wear on the shape of the hole.

In addition, precision hole technology has been integrated into the new COMBIREX DX, SUPRAREX HD and ERGOSTAR DX machines and can also be used to retrofit many existing ESAB plasma machines.
