West's largest stone trader is expected to enter Shihu Port
In the world of stone, Shishi, once an "unknown" city, has now gained international recognition and is emerging as a powerful player in the global stone industry. This was recently highlighted at the "Xiamen International Stone Fair," which just concluded. Among the attendees was Marmi Bruno Zanet, president of Brazil’s largest stone trading company, who led a delegation to visit Shihu Port. The purpose of the visit was to explore potential collaborations with Quanzhou Pacific Terminal Company and to assess the growing influence of the "SHU" stone brand from Shihugang across key stone-exporting regions.
The Xiamen International Stone Fair, known as the largest stone exhibition in the world, brought together thousands of exhibitors and industry professionals. It provided a platform for the stone industry to rediscover the value of stone lions and to become familiar with the "SHU" brand. Liu Hunan, general manager of Quanzhou Pacific Terminal Company, noted that with the continuous growth of the stone business in Shihugang, the "SHU" stone brand, along with XMN (Xiamen Port) and HKG (Hong Kong), ranks among the top imported brands domestically.
During the fair, Shihu Port once again took center stage, drawing significant attention for its port facilities, including berthing, loading and unloading capabilities, transportation, and storage. Marmi Bruno Zanet was particularly impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of the operations, which he believes make Shihu Port an ideal destination for his company's future imports.
Looking back at Shihu Port’s performance in 2013, the results were impressive. From January to December, the port handled a total of 2.13 million tons of bulk cargo, representing a 29.7% increase compared to the previous year. Waste stone handling reached 1.74 million tons. In the first two months of 2014, the port recorded a 140.7% year-on-year increase in bulk cargo throughput, with waste stone reaching 530,000 tons—an increase of 175.2%. Despite challenges such as domestic real estate regulations and tariff changes in India, Shishi managed to maintain a high import volume, reinforcing its reputation as a major stone import hub.
Liu Hunan emphasized that the partnership with Brazil’s largest stone trader not only diversifies the range of imported stones in Shishi but also strengthens the port’s position in the global stone trade. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would enhance the visibility of the "SHU" stone brand worldwide and elevate the global profile of Shishi City.
According to the reporter, after a thorough evaluation of the stone trade environment in Shihugang, Marmi Bruno Zanet was deeply impressed by the local capacity to handle large-scale stone operations. He believes that Shihu Port has the necessary operational strength and service quality to support his business. As a result, he plans to shift some of his imports to Shishi in the first half of 2014. Both parties are currently in active discussions to finalize the cooperation.
