Preparation and characterization of an ultrafine cobalt powder with lower sintering temperature

Abstract At present, domestic diamond tools and cobalt powder are produced. Ammonium bicarbonate is used as a precipitant to prepare ultrafine cobalt powder by precipitant-thermal decomposition-reduction process. The effects of temperature and pH on the process parameters in the process of precipitant were studied, and ultrafine cobalt powder with Fsss particle size of 0.5~1μm was prepared. The morphology of ultrafine cobalt powder was observed by SEM. 40mmX8mmX3.2 samples were prepared by hot pressing sintering, and the hardness and flexural strength of the samples were characterized. Compared with the traditional oxalic acid precipitation reduction to produce cobalt powder, the cobalt powder of the process equipment has a fine crystal spherical shape and higher activity. The hot-pressed sintered sample of such ultrafine cobalt powder can obtain higher hardness at a lower temperature, and exhibits good stability in bending strength at different temperature ranges, and reduces production cost.
