Catch up with Space X

The eyes of technology and capital are looking up collectively, and there are also a number of people in the commercial aviation field in China that are catching up with Space X.

The system design was completed, the test run was successful, and the near-first flight schedule and successive financing news made more and more new Chinese commercial space forces become the target of attention. Will they be the next Space X? Who will put the treasure in the private rocket company? Is there a bubble in the starry sky above the head? Everything may still be unknown, but the new forces of China's commercial aerospace are ready to start a new round of space competition.

The first domestic private rocket research and development completed

On the evening of July 5th, Beijing Blue Arrow Space Technology Co., Ltd. (Blue Arrow Aerospace) announced that the company's self-developed medium-sized liquid oxygen methane carrier rocket Suzaku No. 2 has completed the whole system design work in June this year, and plans to complete all in 2019. Ground test, first flight in 2020.

Zhang Jianwu, CEO of Blue Arrow Aerospace, said that the Suzaku No. 2 liquid launch vehicle will be the first medium-sized rocket in China's private commercial rocket field. The product developed by the World Private Rocket Company will have the capacity of Zhuque No. 2 to reach the third and national number in the world. One.

The Zhuque No. 2 has completed detailed design in June this year, and 100% of the 100-ton liquid-oxygen methane engine is completed with detailed design drawings. The core components such as thrust chamber, turbo pump and valve have been fully rolled out.

Blue Arrow Aerospace CTO Kang Yonglai said that the basic type of Suzaku No. 2 is a two-stage liquid launch vehicle with a diameter of 3.35m, a total length of 48.8m, a total weight of 216 tons, a total takeoff thrust of 268 tons, and a 500km altitude sun-synchronous orbit capacity of 2 tons. The 200km low earth orbit capacity is 4 tons. Two large SUVs can be delivered into space at the same time.

Commercial rockets are tight products

Who will put the treasure in the private rocket company? In Kang Yonglai's view, this is a trillion-level market. The development of the Internet, the Internet of Things, and the Internet of Vehicles has led to more and more demand for satellites. However, the current launch vehicles can only meet 40% of the satellite market demand. The market is in short supply, and commercial rockets are tight products.

In order to win market competition, commercial aerospace needs to strike a balance between cost and performance. Kang Yonglai said that Blue Arrow chose to do liquid rockets, which is also considered to be efficient and cost-effective in the commercial aerospace market. Both Raptor (Raptor) and Blue-derived BE-4 from SpaceX use liquid oxygen methane engines, which are also market driven.

“The performance of a one-kilogram liquid pusher is 40%-50% higher than that of a one-kilogram solid pusher. The price is much cheaper than solids.” According to Kang Yonglai, the liquid oxygen methane propellant used by Suzaku No. 2 per kilogram The cost is about 5 yuan, which is much lower than the cost of more than ten yuan per kilogram of liquid oxygen kerosene and one hundred yuan per kilogram of liquid oxygen liquid hydrogen. The integrated electrical single unit reduces the electrical cost of the entire arrow by 80%. The tower-free launch system significantly increases the launch efficiency, shortening the launch preparation time to 7 days, and the estimated cost per kilogram of launch will be lower than Falcon 9 in the future.

Capital is hot, is there a bubble?

Just as Blue Arrow Aerospace announced that "Suzaku No. 2" completed the whole system design work, the smart small launch vehicle developer Zero Space announced the M-series rocket primary engine and tail gas rudder joint test. The zero-turn space mainly uses commercial solid rocket motors to provide cost-effective launch services for commercial microsatellites around the world. In January of this year, Zero Space won 500 million yuan in financing.

The "national team" players are also accelerating the pace of capitalization and marketization. In February 2016, Aerospace Science and Technology Rocket Technology Co., Ltd., affiliated to the Fourth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology, was incorporated. In April, the first single launch service contract was signed. After more than eight months, the fast boat rocket was launched.

The international commercial aerospace market is also making rapid progress. On June 30th, the MOMO-2 rocket developed by Japan's private space start-up company Interstellar Technologies failed to launch, but the company decided to continue to promote development. Another commercial rocket company invested by companies such as Canon Electronics of Japan and IHI AEROSPACE announced that it was officially renamed Space One and received a capital increase. Space X, a private space launcher, is also trying to recycle rockets on the California coast.

"I really worry that there is a bubble in the industry." Kang Yonglai said that aerospace is a serious matter and cannot be used as a launch vehicle. But if everyone looks at it rationally, aerospace is unlikely to be a bubble, because technology is not a bit fake.
