Sanitary ware maintenance method Daquan

Ceramic sanitary ware includes a variety of bathroom fixtures such as toilets, urinals, wash basins, bidets, and mop sinks. While most parts are easy to maintain, the toilet bowl requires more attention. Regular cleaning of the porcelain surface is essential to keep it looking clean and functional.

For example, over time, oil stains and dirt can build up on a wash basin. To remove these, you can use oxalic acid. Apply it to the stained area, let it sit for about a minute, then rinse thoroughly with water. Oxalic acid is highly acidic and effective at dissolving grease, but it’s important to rinse it off quickly to avoid damaging the ceramic surface. If the stain persists, you can try using a safe bleach solution. Pour it onto the affected area and let it soak for 20 minutes before scrubbing gently with a sponge or cloth. Avoid using scouring pads or abrasive materials, as they can scratch the glaze and dull the appearance of the basin.

The same cleaning methods can be applied to other ceramic sanitary products. In addition to cleaning, there are several precautions to take when maintaining ceramic fixtures:

  • Never flush paper products like tissues, sanitary napkins, or newspaper down the toilet, as they can cause blockages.
  • Avoid hitting or dropping heavy objects on ceramic surfaces to prevent cracks or leaks.
  • Use a suction cup to remove any stubborn debris from the toilet without damaging the porcelain.
  • Do not expose ceramic fixtures to temperatures below 0°C, as freezing can cause cracking.
  • When installing a toilet, always use glass glue instead of cement to prevent expansion issues that could burst the base.
  • If your drainage system already has a backwater bend, it’s best to use a flushing product rather than a siphonic one.
  • When installing a squatting pan, place a thin layer of asphalt between the mounting surface and the floor for better stability.
  • For sink installations, glass glue is recommended, and epoxy should be avoided to prevent damage to the ceramic.
  • If there are minor metal scratches, they can be removed using a mild acid solution without harming the glaze.
  • If the floor is too thin during toilet installation, consider using silicone adhesive instead of expansion bolts for a secure fit.
  • If you choose a wall-mounted cabinet sink, it’s safer to fix both the cabinet and the sink together to ensure stability.

Additionally, many people use tap water to flush the toilet, while wastewater from washing clothes tends to be alkaline. This can lead to corrosion of internal components and staining of the porcelain. To avoid this, it's best not to use dirty dishwater or other non-potable water sources directly in the toilet. Instead, keep the water source separate from the toilet to protect its integrity and extend its lifespan.
