Quanzhou Stone exports to ASEAN increased by two in 2013

According to data from Quanzhou Customs, in 2013 the city exported 462,000 tons of granite stone products, representing a 9.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. These exports accounted for 8.6% of the province's total stone exports during that time, with a value reaching $320 million—an increase of 16.3% year-on-year. Overall, the stone export sector showed consistent growth, reflecting a stable and expanding industry. Tombstones remain the primary product category in Quanzhou’s stone exports. The main destinations include Japan, ASEAN countries, and the United States. Specifically, 140,000 tons were sent to Japan, 73,000 tons to ASEAN, and 51,000 tons to the U.S. Notably, exports to ASEAN saw a significant surge, rising by 2.2 times compared to the same period last year. This impressive growth highlights the increasing importance of emerging markets in driving Quanzhou’s stone industry forward. The strong performance in the ASEAN market suggests that these regions hold substantial potential for further expansion. In response, Quanzhou Customs has advised local stone export companies to focus on developing markets with lower entry barriers, such as consumer-driven economies and areas undergoing infrastructure development. By tailoring their strategies to local conditions, businesses can better position themselves in international markets and enhance the global footprint of Quanzhou’s stone industry.
