Quanzhou Stone exports to ASEAN increased by two in 2013
According to data from Quanzhou Customs, in 2013 the city exported 462,000 tons of granite stone products, marking a 9.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This accounted for 8.6% of the province's total stone exports during that time, with a total value reaching $320 million—an increase of 16.3% year-on-year. The steady growth in stone exports reflects a positive trend in the industry.
The primary product category in Quanzhou’s stone exports is tombstones, which remain in high demand internationally. The main export destinations include Japan, Southeast Asian countries, and the United States. Specifically, 140,000 tons were shipped to Japan, 73,000 tons to ASEAN nations, and 51,000 tons to the U.S. Notably, exports to ASEAN saw a significant surge, rising by 2.2 times compared to the previous year.
This strong performance in emerging markets highlights the growing potential of these regions for Quanzhou’s stone industry. In response, Quanzhou Customs has advised local stone exporters to focus on expanding their market presence in areas with lower entry barriers, such as consumer-driven economies and regions undergoing infrastructure development. Companies are encouraged to develop tailored strategies that align with the specific needs and conditions of each market, thereby enhancing the global visibility and competitiveness of Quanzhou’s stone sector.
