REC Thailand's first solar photovoltaic built

REC Thailand's first solar photovoltaic built REC, a leading solar panel manufacturer, has successfully completed its first photovoltaic project in Thailand — the largest solar power station in northern Thailand. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the country’s renewable energy development. The solar power station spans 24 hectares and is equipped with nearly 41,000 units of REC's Peak Energy series panels. It is expected to supply clean energy to approximately 7,200 households in the region. The project is developed and operated by Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, in collaboration with CK Power, a subsidiary of CH Karchang, one of Thailand’s top construction companies. REC and Sonnedix have a long-standing partnership in European solar projects, which made REC the preferred supplier for this initiative. Franck from Sonnedix praised REC’s reputation and product reliability, stating that their panels are well-suited to Thailand’s climate and regulatory environment. Located in Chiang Rai, the project faced unique challenges due to the terrain’s slope. To maximize efficiency, the solar panels were installed on a specially designed concrete structure, allowing them to capture maximum sunlight. The facility produces around 15,000 MWh of electricity annually and connects to the national grid via high-voltage lines. Additionally, it helps reduce carbon emissions by nearly 9,000 tons per year. In recent years, Thailand has been working to reduce its reliance on imported energy. To meet growing demand, the government has focused on expanding local renewable energy sources. By 2021, it aimed to generate 25% of its electricity from renewables. Martin, REC’s project development manager for Thailand, emphasized the company’s commitment to the region. “Our goal is to make solar energy as simple and accessible as possible,” he said. “We’ve opened an office in Bangkok to support long-term growth in Southeast Asia. We’re proud to be part of this first project in Chiang Rai, which represents a key milestone in our partnership with Thailand.”
