REC Thailand's first solar photovoltaic built

REC Thailand's first solar photovoltaic built REC, a leading solar panel manufacturer, has officially completed its first photovoltaic project in Thailand, marking a significant milestone for the country's renewable energy sector. This project, located in Chiang Rai, is the largest solar power station in northern Thailand and showcases the growing potential of solar energy in the region. The solar power station spans 24 hectares and features nearly 41,000 units of REC’s Peak Energy series panels. It is capable of supplying clean energy to approximately 7,200 households in the area. The project was developed and managed by Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, in collaboration with CK Power, a subsidiary of CH Karchang, one of Thailand’s top construction firms. REC and Sonnedix have a long-standing partnership in European solar projects, which made REC the natural choice for this Thai initiative. Franck from Sonnedix highlighted the company’s strong reputation and reliable technology. “REC is well-known for its high-quality solar panels, which are perfectly suited for Thailand’s climate and regulatory environment,” he said. “Their products have proven to be both durable and efficient, making them the ideal solution for our project.” Chiang Rai’s challenging terrain posed unique installation difficulties, requiring the use of specially designed concrete structures to optimize performance under varying sunlight conditions. The facility connects to the national grid via a high-voltage overhead line, producing 15,000 MWh of electricity annually. Additionally, it helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 9,000 tons each year, contributing to Thailand’s environmental goals. To further strengthen its presence in the region, REC recently opened an office in Bangkok. With over half of Thailand’s electricity previously sourced from imports, the government has been pushing for more local energy production. By 2021, the goal is for 25% of domestic electricity demand to come from renewable sources. Martin, REC’s project development manager for Thailand, expressed his enthusiasm about the new office. “Our aim is to make it easy for customers to access our solutions. By establishing a local presence, we’re not only supporting this project but also laying the groundwork for future expansion in Southeast Asia.” He added, “We are proud to be part of the Cheung Lai solar power station, which marks the beginning of a promising partnership between REC and Thailand.”
