Zhao Rui, a member of the Qixian County Political Advisory Conference, recently highlighted the growing concern over severe smog pollution across various regions in China. In some cities, prolonged periods of heavy haze have significantly impacted public health and daily life. While the government has taken several measures to address this issue, including launching multiple environmental protection initiatives, the challenge of smog remains complex and long-term.
To better protect vulnerable groups, Zhao Rui proposed that the state should consider developing specific policies related to smog insurance and financial support. This would particularly benefit individuals who are required to work outdoors for extended periods, such as sanitation workers, construction laborers, traffic police officers, and delivery personnel. These workers are more exposed to harmful air particles, especially fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Therefore, providing them with high-quality masks designed to filter out such particles would be an essential protective measure.
In addition, Zhao Rui suggested that the government could draw inspiration from the existing high-temperature subsidy system and introduce a similar "smog subsidy" for outdoor workers during periods of severe air pollution. This would not only help reduce health risks but also show greater social responsibility towards those on the front lines of environmental challenges.
