The wealth adjustment effect of Chengdu furniture industry has begun to show

Chengdu's mid-range planning has entered a critical implementation phase, with strong industry-city integration and the emergence of the China Home Furnishing New City in Chengdu. The Chengdu Furniture Industry Park stands out as the only centralized furniture development zone planned by the municipal government. Over the years, the furniture sector has played a vital role in driving Chengdu's economic growth, which is why the government has consistently emphasized the importance of mid-range adjustments. To accelerate the development of the western trade center and modern service industry base, and to support urbanization and the creation of a world-class idyllic city, the Chengdu Municipal Government officially introduced the mid-range plan back in 2008. This initiative aimed to restructure the city's industrial layout and promote sustainable development. A significant milestone was marked by the "Chengdu Furniture Industry 'Middle Adjustment' Relocation Initiation Ceremony and Information Conference," hosted by the Chengdu Bureau of Commerce and the Chengdu Metropolitan People’s Government. During the event, provincial and municipal leaders emphasized the importance of industrial upgrading and the vision of a modern pastoral city. The conference not only signaled the official relocation of the furniture industry to Xiangjiang Global Home CBD but also set the stage for a major transformation in Chengdu's commercial landscape. The structural adjustment of the service industry in the central city began in 2008 with the release of the "Chengfufa [2008] No. 70" document. This policy aimed at shifting large-scale industries out of the central area, reducing the number of commercial and industrial markets, and optimizing land use. By 2010, the plan started taking shape, with several sectors such as traditional Chinese medicine, daily goods, hotel supplies, and plastics undergoing restructuring. Projects like the Northern Commercial City and the Runmao Chengdu International Hotel Supplies City have become key players in this transition. Meanwhile, the government has established four major commodity market zones to accommodate the relocated businesses, ensuring efficient resource allocation and urban development. In 2006, the Chengdu Municipal Government approved the construction of the Chengdu Furniture Industrial Park, a project developed jointly by Xindu District and the Nanfang Xiangjiang Group. As the sole centralized furniture zone in the city, it plays a crucial role in the mid-range strategy. Recognizing the need for a high-end platform to support the furniture industry, the government partnered with Nanfang Xiangjiang Group to build the Xiangjiang Global Home CBD. This international-level exhibition and sales platform is designed to integrate manufacturing, logistics, procurement, and more, addressing long-standing issues in the local furniture sector. Xindu, known as the "Tianfu Granary," has been a hub for furniture production for over two decades. With more than 350 factories and a workforce of 40,000, the district has contributed significantly to Chengdu’s economy. However, with increased competition and economic growth, the industry now faces the need for modernization and expansion. The mid-range adjustment is already showing positive effects, especially in terms of rental value. Existing furniture stores in Chengdu command high rents, and the new Xiangjiang Global Home CBD is expected to offer even greater returns. This shift not only enhances the value of existing properties but also signals a promising future for the furniture industry in Chengdu.
